The Story of Plymouth Furniture: Serving Plymouth, WI since 1977.

Plymouth Furniture started back in 1977 by Jim and Mary Shields under the name Plymouth Hardware Inc. Originally a retail hardware store, it was on advice of their friend that Jim and Mary started Sit-N-Sleep Furniture upstairs of the hardware store, in downtown Plymouth. As the 2 stores continued to grow the decision was made to move to a larger facility; in 2000 the purchase of the 90,000 sq. ft. Fairfield Plaza was made and Sit-N-Sleep was then renamed Plymouth Furniture. Originally shared among 6 businesses Plymouth Furniture had a retail footprint of over 15,000 sq. ft.

 

In 2006 Plymouth Furniture added a clearance section in the former hardware store. As years passed the Clearance Center grew to encompass the next 2 business floors and together Plymouth Furniture Inc. now has a retail footprint of over 46,000 sq. ft.  In 2010 Jim and Mary’s son, Mike, joined and took an active role in the daily business of the store. In 2019 Mike and Amy Shields purchased the remaining shares of Plymouth Furniture. Now the store is run by the 2nd and 3rd generations of Shields.
